Gormley out to make goal-scoring history for Reds tonight at Seaview
One more strike takes him to 171 in all-time records
Joe Gormley will break Cliftonville’s all-time goalscoring record if he finds the net tonight (Friday) against Crusaders at Seaview.
The striker already jointly tops the goals chart at Solitude with Kevin McGarry – on 170.
He will be leading the line again tonight – fresh from being named today at the Northern Ireland Football Writers’ Player of the Month (for September).
Speaking to Downtown & Cool FM, Gormley said he only needed one opportunity.
“It’s just down to keep going and never say never,” he said.
“Just hopefully one chance comes – 90 minutes is a long game.
“Hopefully when I get that chance I will score.”
Gormley branded winning the award “a great achievement”.
But he added: “As I always say it is my team-mates who provide me with the chances and they have got me the award.
“I would like to dedicate this award to them.”
And that game at Seaview kicks off at 7.45pm
