Giants Lose Out To Devils In Overtime

The Stena Line Belfast Giants split the weekend with the Cardiff Devils with the Welsh side taking Saturday’s win, 3-2 after overtime. The Giants staged an impressive comeback from 2-0 down to take the game to overtime, however Joey Martin’s goal secured the extra point for the Devils.

After the weekends action, it’s ‘as you were’ at the top of the standings with the Giants in second place, seven points behind the Devils.

First Period Stalemate

Both sides could not find an opening during the first 20 minutes of action despite both having special teams opportunities. Giants netminder Jackson Whistle was particularly impressive in the first period.

Ulmer Double Edges Devils In Front

Layne Ulmer gave the Devils the lead in Belfast, scoring at 26:00 and assisted by Sean Bentivoglio.

Ulmer netted his second of the game at 33:17 as he doubled the Devils lead on the power play, assisted by Gleason Fournier and Jake Morissette.

Soon after the Giants pulled one back when Spiro Goulakos finished off a sweeping Giants move after a nice pass from Darcy Murphy at 34:40.

Devils Edge Final Period

Blair Riley completed the Giant comeback at 43:51 with a powerplay strike, assisted by Steve Saviano and Darcy Murphy.

Devils Steal Extra Point With OT Goal

The Giants had the better of the possession during the overtime period, however it was the Devils who grabbed the decisive goal through Joey Martin at 62:16, assisted by Gleason Fournier
