GAA: Harte steps down as Derry boss

Mickey Harte has stepped down as Manager of Derry Senior footballers after just a single season in charge.

The former Tyrone All-Ireland winning boss guided the Oak Leaf county to the Dr McKenna Cup and National League titles, their first national title in 16 years.

However, his side endured a tough All-Ireland Series, eventually being knocked out at the Quarter-final stage following a 0-15 to 0-10 loss against Kerry.

His assistant Gavin Devlin will also leave his role.

In a statement, Harte said: "I would like to thank the players for the huge commitment they gave to the Derry jersey during the 2024 season.

"I would also like to thank Gavin and the entire backroom team for their hard work, dedication and expertise. Thanks too for the support of the County Board and all those generous sponsors of the GAA in Derry. Finally, I wish the players every success in the years ahead.”

Derry GAA Chairperson John Keenan praised Harte for his time in the role.

"We sincerely thank Mickey, Gavin and their entire backroom team for their hard work and dedication throughout the 2024 season. We wish them the very best in their future endeavours."

The statement added that they county board would now begin the process of appoitnig a new manager to replace Harte.
