Coleraine settle for runners-up spot after dramatic final day in season

Crusaders are Irish League champions after a dramatic final day in the Danske Bank Premiership season.

The Crues did it the hard way – coming from behind to beat Ballymena 2-1 at the Showgrounds.

David Cushley’s excellent late strike sealed the points and ensured the Gibson Cup returned to Seaview for the first time in two seasons.

Coleraine secured the runners-up spot – finishing two points behind Crusaders – after a scoreless draw with Glenavon at Mourneview Park.

It means the Lurgan Blues finish third and the guarantee of European football.

Linfield ended their disappointing campaign in fourth spot after losing 2-1 at home to Cliftonville.

Elsewhere, Ballinmallard have been relegated despite a 3-1 win over Glentoran at the Oval.

Nearest rivals for the drop, Carrick Rangers, go into a Premiership play-off with Championship runners-up Newry – after winning 3-2 at Warrenpoint.

Finally, Ards and Dungannon Swifts fought out a roller-coaster seven-goal thriller – with the County Tyrone edging it 4-3.
