Jamie Conlon takes a huge step to a world title shot tonight at the Waterfront.
The Belfast boxer takes on Yader Cardoza later with a WBC silver title at stake.
Conlan is already the Commonwealth super-flyweight champ and while confident of a win is taking nothing for granted against Nicaraguan opponent.
“This guy is a former world title challenger – he’s been in with real high quality fighters,” he told Downtown & Cool FM.
“He has no respect for me whatsoever and he’s bringing a lot to the table and I am expecting a really tough night’s work.”
Conlon’s brother Michael makes his professional debut in New York on St Patrick’s Day.
He says it will be a proud day for the whole family.
“Very surreal – just the two of us from a wee small house,” he said. “We’re doing big things now. Michael is setting the world alight at the minute. I am very proud to be his brother and I am sure the family are proud of both of us.”
Meanwhile, Conlon’s close friend, fellow Belfast boxer and triple Olympian Paddy Barnes is on the supporting bill.
He faces Adrian Garzon in the flyweight division.
“Things have taken a turn for the better,” he said. “I am enjoying being a professional and I am in the best shape I’ve ever been in.”
