Boxing: Gallagher glides his way to Olympic Games spot
Tyrone's Jude Gallagher is going to this Summer's Olympic Games.
The 22-year-old from Newtownstewart cruised into the semi-finals of the Olympic qualifiers in Italy last night.
But more importantly, he sealed to ticket on the place to Paris this Summer with an impressive win over Shukur Ovesov of Turkmenistan.
Gallagher forced his opponent into a standing count in each of the first two rounds - before easing his way to a unanimous victory in the third.
It was another outstanding performance from the featherweight who has impressed right from the start of the tournament.
Earlier, controversial judging cost Grainne Walsh a place at the Games. But that has left the door open for Commonwealth gold medallist Amy Broadhurst to seal her spot in the final qualifiers.
Gallagher joins Belfast's Michaela Walsh, Kellie Harrington, Aoife O'Rourke, Dean Clancy and Jack Marley at the Games. They all won their spots at the European Games in Poland last June.
A final qualification tournament will be held in Bangkok at the end of May.
