Jonathan Rea cut the gap at the top of the standings to World Superbikes Championship leader Alvaro Bautista with a second placed finish at Donington Park on Saturday.

The race was won by Toprak Razgatlioglu. The eventual winner led from the start to finish, leaving Rea and Bautista to slug it out for the runners-up accolade.

Bautista did get ahead of the Ballyclare man, but slid off with eight laps to go. That let Alex Lowes to take the last podium spot.

Six-time champion Rea is now 16 points adrift of Bautista. The weekend's second race of the meeting takes place on Sunday - the Superpole race is followed by race two at 1400 BST.
