Yellow weather warning issued for NI this week

Severe gales could be on the cards this weekend as the next unsettled spell of winter weather prepares to grip Northern Ireland.

Just last weekend, Storm Arwen swept in across the UK, bringing with it winds of over 70mph.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning on Tuesday 7th December from 9am to midnight.

Low pressure currently moving in from the Atlantic has been officially named Storm Barra.

Strong winds are expected to arrive into the west through the morning, spreading inland and reaching eastern areas through the afternoon and early evening.

Gusts of 45-50 mph are predicted widely, with 60-70 mph in exposed coastal locations.

What to expect:

• Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely

• Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer

• Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely

• Some short term loss of power and other services is possible

• It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves
