Yellow weather warning for thunderstorms issued for NI today
Heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to hit Northern Ireland today, potentially bringing disruption and flooding.
A yellow weather warning is in place until 9pm today (Tuesday 21st May), the mid-Ulster and the west of NI in particular.
What to expect:
☔️ Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
⚡️ There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost
🌧️ There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds
Northern Ireland's five-day forecast:
Today: A rather cloudy day with showers. Outbreaks isolated around the east coast where the best of the limited sunshine appears, but occasional elsewhere with thunderstorms developing into the afternoon to the west of Lough Neagh. Winds light. Maximum temperature 20 °C.
Tonight: Remaining rather cloudy. The afternoon showers ease during the late evening, before building again overnight. Light east to northeast winds. Minimum temperature 9 °C.
Wednesday: Frequent showers initially mixed with limited brighter spells. Cloudy for afternoon with patchy light rain, this most persistent across east of Province.Freshening north to northwest winds developing during the evening. Maximum temperature 18 °C.
Outlook for Thursday to Saturday: Thursday and Friday cloudy with occasional patchy rain. Saturday mainly dry with bright and sunny spells.
