Unsettled conditions set to continue this weekend

A strong jet stream in the Atlantic will help maintain the changeable theme to our weather this week.

Much of the UK & Ireland will continue to be on the cooler side of the jet, meaning temperatures will be around or just below average. Where there is sunshine though, it will feel fairly warm, largely in the south.

The weather will remain unsettled and rather cool across the weekend.

Paul Gundersen, Chief Meteorologist at the Met Office and said: " A few showers are also likely across Northern Ireland, Wales and northern England, but southern England should remain dry with sunny spells.

“It will feel cooler in the damp northwest, but temperatures will be nearer average in the south and southwest. That rain is expected to continue in parts of Scotland and perhaps Northern Ireland overnight.”

Northern Ireland's five-day forecast:

Today: Some bright or sunny periods and a few passing showers, but some spells of drier weather too. A breezy day with blustery westerly winds. Rather cool. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Tonight: Some late brightness this evening along with the odd shower. Then the rest of the night will be largely dry with clear periods. Chance of a shower later in north. Minimum temperature 7 °C.

Friday: Apart from one or two showers it will be mainly dry with some bright or sunny spells. Maximum temperature 18 °C.
