Second yellow weather warning for thunder and lightning across NI

Heavy rain caused flash flooding yesterday ☔️

The Met Office has issued another weather warning for thunderstorms across parts of Northern Ireland, this will come into affect 12.45pm-6pm on Wednesday 28th July.

Intense thundery showers are expected to produce 20-30mm of rain in an hour and 40 to 60mm in 3 hours.

What to expect:

A chance of some damage to a few buildings and structures from lightning strikes

Driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus

There is a good chance

Delays to train services are possible

Some short term loss of power and other services is possible

Some flooding of a few homes and businesses possible, leading to some damage to buildings or structures

Northern Ireland four day forecast:

Today: A few bright or sunny intervals but mostly cloudy. Some slow moving showers developing, heavy and prolonged in places with a chance of thunder. Light winds. Maximum temperature 18 °C

Tonight: Heavy showers gradually dying away this evening then dry for a time with clear periods. Further cloud and rain will spread from the northwest in the early hours. Minimum temperature 11 °C****

Thursday: Cloudy start with some showery rain. Becoming mainly dry and somewhat brighter by the afternoon, perhaps some warm sunshine in the southeast. Maximum temperature 18 °C

Outlook for Friday to Sunday: Chance of a few showers on Friday then dry and bright with sunny spells over the weekend
