Storm Agnes: Second weather warning now in place across Northern Ireland

As we batten down in anticipation for Storm Agnes today, the Met Office has issued a second weather warning.

Gusts of up to 80mph are possible in some places, with inland areas forecast to see gusts of 50 to 60mph.

Some areas will see 20-30 mm of rain within a few hours as the storm pushes northeast across the country, whilst some parts of the Mournes and Sperrins may catch up to around 40-50 mm.

A spokesperson from the Met Office has also warned: "Leaf fall and other debris from strong winds may block some drains, leading to an increased risk of flooding in a few spots."

A yellow weather warning in now place from noon today (Wednesday 27th September) until 8pm this evening.

What to expect:

⛈️ Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer

⛈️ Flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible

Northern Ireland's five-day forecast:

Today: A dry and bright start. However, it will turn wet and very windy during the day, strong to gale force southeasterly winds developing, severe gales around the Irish Sea coast by the end of the afternoon. Maximum temperature 15 °C.

Tonight: Wet and very windy this evening, gusts of 50 to 60mph likely, reaching 70mph around the Irish Sea coast. Winds then turning into the southwest and easing. Minimum temperature 10 °C.

Thursday: Fresh to strong southwesterly winds, coastal gales at first. Drier and bright for a time with some sunny spells, but heavy showers pushing in from the west in the afternoon. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday: Bright and breezy with a scattering of showers on Friday. Dry and bright early Saturday, but rain later. Rain clearing to showers on Sunday.
