Could the snow and ice return next week across Northern Ireland?

Take a look at this weekend's latest weather forecast

Say goodbye to crisp blue skies, heavy clouds and rain are on the way this weekend.

According to the Met Office, Sunday is the best bet for many to get out and about for winter walks and activities.

As weather fronts continue to blow in across the Atlantic, rain and cloud will develop across Northern Ireland. As Saturday turns wetter, the temperature will rise to a milder high of 9 °C throughout the afternoon.

High pressure is expected across southern and central parts of the UK at the start of this period, bringing settled conditions and light winds, though it's likely to be rather cloudy in some areas.

Temperatures will be generally around average next week, but there is a risk of some colder nights with local frost and fog. Spells of rain, drizzle and stronger winds are likely further north.

Northern Ireland's weekend forecast:

Saturday: Drier, brighter weather during the morning with sunny spells. Scattered showers will follow in the afternoon along with fresh or strong westerly winds. A milder day. Maximum temperature 9 °C

Sunday: Cloudy, showery start to Sunday, becoming drier, brighter in afternoon

Monday: Band of rain crossing all parts on Monday with strong southwest winds. Sunny spells and scattered showers following on Tuesday
