After almost three weeks of wall to wall sunshine, a weather warning for rain has been issued for Northern Ireland.

According to the Met Office, thundery showers could bring localised flooding to parts of the the country during this weekend.

"Many areas will remain dry on Saturday. However, where heavy showers do break out there is potential for 20 mm rain to fall in less than an hour with 30-50 mm possible in three hours. Hail may present an added hazard. The risk looks greatest across Northern Ireland first, from around midday, before showers and thunderstorms die out during the evening."

The Met Office's weather warning comes into affect from 12:00 on Saturday lasting through until 21:00.

"Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures."

"There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded or struck by lighting, causing damage to some buildings."

"Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services."

"There is a slight chance that flooding or lightning strikes could cause power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses."
