After a week of glorious sunshine, record-breaking temperatures and our first amber heat warning, we're due some light relief.

Just as we were starting to acclimatise to the 30°C heat, our days spent relaxing in the sun are over as the forecast this week looks set to return to 'normal.'

The Met Office predicts temperatures to be in the high teens with showers and sunny intervals throughout the week.

However a long range forecast would suggest we might have another heatwave on the way very soon. Reports suggest that "as we head further towards mid-August, it is most likely to become more settled with drier and warmer conditions developing."

Northern Ireland weekly forecast:

Today: Patchy low cloud mostly clearing but some may linger along the North Coast. Otherwise, mainly dry with warm sunny spells but scattered heavy showers developing in the afternoon, mainly across western counties. Maximum temperature 24 °C.

Tonight: Mainly dry at first with clear spells but showery rain will develop more widely overnight. Some low cloud will also develop. Minimum temperature 15 °C.

Tuesday: A few bright spells in the east at first, otherwise cloudy with showery rain, heavy at times. Feeling a little cooler than Monday. Maximum temperature 20 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:Much cooler and unsettled with showers or longer spells of rain, these heavy and perhaps thundery at times.
