More heavy rain and thunder on the way for Northern Ireland

A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms and heavy rain has been issued for Friday 6th August, from 4am to midnight and on Saturday 7th from 4am to midnight.

The Met Office have reported "slow moving thundery downpours later this week may cause localised surface water impacts."

Just a fortnight ago Northern Ireland's hottest day on record was beaten, with a mammoth 31.3°C in Castlederg. Armagh was provisionally on top with a reading of 31.4°C, however yesterday news broke that the Met Office could not fully verify that temperature.

It looks like August might be a washout, with rain on the forecast for the next few weeks.

What to expect on Friday:

• Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures

• Small chance that homes and businesses could be flood quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater

• Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to public transport
