TikTok is to start prompting users to put their phones down and take a break from scrolling.

The new digital wellbeing tools are to help keen social media flickers to take control of the overall amount of time they spend on the social media platform.

The company said the new tools are to help with “a positive relationship with digital devices” and that it wants the app to bring “joy, connection, enrichment and entertainment.

There is already a daily screen time limit feature that enables users to set a daily time allowance for using the app per day, but the new screen time limit will prompt users to take a break after a certain amount of uninterrupted screen time.

A new dashboard will show data about the amount of time the user spends on the app, how often they open it, and a breakdown of their day and night-time usage, with an option to opt-in for weekly notifications to review the figures also available.
