Storm Isha: 7,000 homes across Northern Ireland still without power

Around 7,000 homes across Northern Ireland were still without electricity this morning (Tuesday) after Storm Isha caused widespread disruption to the network.

At one stage during the height of the storm, 53,000 NIE customers were without power.

A spokesperson for NIE Networks said:

“Approximately 7,000 customers remain without power following the adverse weather conditions brought by Storm Isha. However this number may change as the weather develops and as customers report faults with the arrival of Storm Jocelyn later today.

We once again want to remind the public to maintain safety around any damaged electricity equipment and never approach a broken pole or overhead power line.

Northern Ireland was now bracing itself for fresh weather warnings, brought about by the imminent arrival of Storm Jocelyn.

Earlier, Randal Gilbert, NIE Networks Future Networks Director said: "Our teams will continue to work overnight and our aim is to get as many people as possible back on supply as soon as we can.

"We’re conscious that Storm Jocelyn is on its way tomorrow so we anticipate that it may bring further challenges.

“We have also been working with local councils to open a number of community centres for customers still without power. The centres will offer hot drinks, the opportunity to charge devices, and to get a hot shower and are available at Lisburn Leisureplex, Brownlow Hub in Craigavon and Fermanagh Lakeland Forum.”
