Three pipe bombs have been thrown at a house in Lisburn.

Two of the devices exploded on Mill Street, in the Lambeg area of the city, at around 2.20am.

No one was injured, but the blasts caused damage to the front of the house. Police also say a car parked outside the house was tampered with and damaged.

A number of residents - including young children - were evacuated from the street and taken to the nearby Island Centre.

The third pipe bomb which didn't explode was examined by Army Technical Officers and was made safe.

A security cordon remains in place this morning - but has been reduced to the area directly around Mill Street. Police are asking people to remain away from the area while officers conduct enquiries into the incident.

Chief Inspector David Nixon said: “Thankfully no one was injured however the blasts caused damage to the front of the house and it appears as though a car parked outside the property was also tampered with and damaged.
