Last night, Sophie Lennon from Mayobridge, Newry won Junior Eurovision Éire 2022 and will represent Ireland in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Yerevan, Armenia.
Cool FM’s Pete, Paulo and Rebecca have been championing the talented 12-year-old for years.
Sophie was invited to perform live on ‘Cool before Bedtime’ and the ‘Late Late Breakfast Show’ last Christmas.
Sophie was a finalist in last year’s Junior Eurovision, and a semi-finalist in Britain’s Got Talent.
For the first time, the 2022 results were decided by a public vote, which took place online.
Each contestant had to sing two songs; a Irish-language cover of a popular song and a cover of a former Irish Eurovision entry.
Sophie performed “Leave a Light On” / “Why Me?”
The song that Sophie will perform in Yerevan will be specially composed for her and will be revealed soon.
Sharing pics with the winning trophy on social media, Sophie writes: “OMG I'm speechless I just can't believe I've WON tonight and I will be representing Ireland at the Junior Eurovision song contest this December in Armenia this is such an unbelievable and exciting experience for me!
