A local family were enjoying a casual stroll up Cave Hill yesterday in Belfast, when they got the shock of a lifetime stumbling across a snake along the path.

A quick pic of the snake was shared on 'The Cavehill Community' Facebook group, warning others in the area.

Northern Ireland Exotic Sanctuary quickly responded and rescued the lonely snake, that's believed to be a Boa from South America.

They picked it up and are nursing the Boa back to health, but volunteers are pleaing for the owners to get in touch and for the snake to be returned home.

A social post on their Facebook page reads: "This beautiful boa was found in Cavehill Country Park today. Thank you to Sean Paul and Bronach and your very brave kids for securing it before we got there.

"Anyone with information or anyone wanting to claim this snake should please message the page. We will need proof of ownership as well as proof of a secure enclosure.

"No negative comments please as we do not know the circumstances of how it got to be there. Thank you"
