A slug has managed to stop traffic in the early hours of this morning in Londonderry.

At around half five the Traffic Watch NI Twitter page informed drivers that all traffic signals at the junction off the Limavady Road with the Nelson Drive Estate in Derry were out.

Those who know the area well can imagine the havoc that the disruption before the school and work traffic will have caused.

It has since transpired that a slug was responsible for the traffic lights not working!

In an update just before ten am Traffic Watch NI said:

County Londonderry traffic signals at entrance Nelson Drive estate on A2 Clooney Rd working again - a slug had got into the controller and had shorted the printed circuit board!
