Self-isolation in Northern Ireland reducing from seven to five days

The First Minister Paul Givan has tweeted to confirm the self isolation period will be reduce to five days.

From January 21, the Department of Health has confirmed the self-isolation period in Northern Ireland will reduce from seven days to five.

Tomorrow the Executive will meet to discuss easing further restrictions across Northern Ireland.

On social media, Mr Givan added: "Today I’ve been engaging with colleagues and officials on what Covid measures can be lifted at tomorrow’s Executive. I’m hopeful we can make progress."

The First Minister, along with deputy First Minister Michelle O'Neill, met with Health Minister Robin Swann, chief medical officer Sir Michael McBride and chief scientific adviser Professor Ian Young on Wednesday to discuss the latest state of the pandemic in the region.

Mr Givan and Ms O'Neill will travel to Londonderry on Thursday for a visit, and will remain in the city to virtually chair a meeting of the Executive.

Ministers are expected to consider a series of relaxations of Covid-19 rules.

The outcome of these discussions is to be announced at a press conference in Derry on Thursday afternoon.

Relaxations, if agreed, are likely to be introduced on a phased basis, and include some of the latest restrictions implemented.

Nightclubs remain closed

Contact in domestic settings is limited to three households

Customers are required to remain seated in hospitality settings, a maximum of 6 people, or 10 people from a single household is allowed at a table. (Children aged 12 and under are not counted in the total. This requirement does not apply to weddings or civil partnership celebrations.)

Indoor seated and all outdoor events can proceed and it is strongly recommended that face coverings should be worn, LFD tests should be taken before attending events and there should be no multi-household travel in the same vehicle.

The 'work from home' message is encouraged and legislation introduced to require social distancing in workplace. Employers are encouraged to have lateral flow testing procedures for staff coming to work.
