A man wanted to stand trial in Romania for aggravated murder has been arrested in NI

The PSNI has arrested a 35-year-old man who is wanted in Romania to stand trial for aggravated murder.

The man is also wanted on two offences of aggravated robbery after an incident in in the Sibiu area of Romania on November 6th.

A PSNI spokesperson said the man was detained by virtue of an extradition warrant by PSNI officers yesterday evening.

He will be brought before an extradition court in Belfast later today.

A spokesperson from the International Policing Unit said: “This arrest is good example of our close working with authorities in Romania, the National Crime Agency, UK Border Agency and An Garda Siochana.

“The Police Service will continue to work with all out international partners and play our part in bringing fugitives before the courts . Our message is clear that there is nowhere to hide in Northern Ireland and that we will actively pursue all wanted persons believed to be in this jurisdiction.”
