Northern Lights could be visible across parts of Northern Ireland tonight
It's down a geomagnetic storm hitting Earth this week
On Sunday the Weather Prediction Center (SWPC), part of the United States’ National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), issued a geomagnetic storm warning for Monday and Tuesday.
A solar flare, or in more technical terms a coronal mass ejection (CME), is heading towards Earth and bringing the Aurora to lower altitudes, making the Northern Lights potentially more visible.
The Met Office says that while it's not for definite, the best chances of seeing the colourful spectacle are in Scotland, northern parts of England and Northern Ireland.
The Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora, regularly occur at the top of the northern hemisphere.
According to AuroraWatch UK, the best time to spot aurora borealis tonight is between 9pm and 11pm.
All of this extra activity in the skies, is brought on by solar winds. So as well as showcasing a spectacular star/light display in the sky, we might have some technical satellite issues over the next few days.
That could affect global communications and our internet. Just last week, Facebook, Whatsapp and Instagram went down, plunging thousands of people worldwide into a 'digital detox' for the night.
