NISRA records 124 covid-19 deaths in the last week

Over 63% of deaths happened in hospital

Figures for deaths linked to Covid-19 have now reached 2,495 according to the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency.

A further 124 deaths involving the virus occurred in the week from January 23 – 29.

Of this total 1,591 (63.8%) took place in hospital, 712 (28.5%) in care homes, 13 (0.5%) in hospices and 179 (7.2%) at residential addresses or other locations.

While the departmental death toll is reported on a daily basis the statistics agency reports its Covid-19 data with a week lag.

The NISRA figures are based on the information entered on death certificates, completed by medical professionals.

They may or may not have previously tested positive for the virus.

However, the Department of Health’s figures are based on patients having previously tested positive for the virus.

Its total number of deaths now stands at 1,899 which is 596 less than NISRA’s.

Yesterday (Thursday) the daily dashboard showed a further 10 people died after contracting the virus.

A further 412 people tested positive from 2,405 individual tests.

While, 671 hospital inpatients currently have Covid, and there are 68 currently in ICU.
