NI Secretary to be questioned over Stormont financial package and Windsor Framework
Chris Heaton-Harris will appear before the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee
MPs will later get the chance to question the Northern Ireland Secretary about the more than £3 billion package to support the return of power-sharing Stormont.
It comes as a row continues between the UK Government and Stormont parties over what was agreed on revenue raising.
It’s after the Government said writing off almost £600 million of Stormont debt is conditional on the powersharing executive raising £113 million of its own revenue.
Chris Heaton-Harris will be questioned by the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee on the package, including the lump sum to settle public sector pay claims, the ‘needs-based’ funding formula for Northern Ireland, and how he thinks the Executive might raise the £113m of its own funding necessary as part of a financial sustainability plan to trigger the package before the deadline of May this year
MPs will also get to ask what changes will be made to the operation of the Windsor Framework to accommodate the new deal.
