Newtownards: security alert over
Residents had been evacuated from their homes late last night
A security alert in Newtownards has ended.
Police and Ammunition Technical Officers had attended the scene after the discovery of a suspicious object shortly before 9.15 last night (Monday)
In a statement this morning, the PSNI said "it had been declared as nothing untoward."
Cordons have been lifted from the area, and residents who were evacuated from their homes have been able to return.
Earlier road closures in the area have now also been lifted.
