The shooting of a man in Newry earlier today has been condemned by a local MLA.

At approximately 11.55am, the man was shot in the legs in the Carnbane Industrial Estate in the city before being taken to hospital for treatment.

Sinn Fein representative for Newry and Armagh, Liz Kimmins, hit out at those responsible for the attack.

"This is an absolutely reckless attack on our community. It has left people shocked right across Newry," she said.

"There is no place for guns on our streets and we would encourage anyone with any information to bring it forward to the PSNI to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice."

The PSNI have asked anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have any information or dashcam footage in relation to it, to call 101, quoting reference number 679 08/02/22
