Giselle and Allison Marimon-Herrera were found dead in a flat alongside a 38-year-old man on Thursday.

It is thought that they were both strangled and the man, Russell Steele from Scotland, hanged.

It is understood the mother and daughter had been in the process of moving back to Colombia before their deaths.

Local councillor Michael Savage has said the community is trying to pull together for Giselle and Allision.

"Following the events this week, I've been contacted by a number of citizens asking what they could do to help.

"At the end of the day, the mother and daughter who were so tragically killed in this incident, we view them as citizens of our city.

"I read a very heart-rending story that the father was preparing to sell his taxi in order to get over here.

"That shouldn't happen and the people of Newry won't let that happen - we will support the family and I hope now the people here will rally around and send a message of support and condolence by contributing to this fund.

"There will be boxes available in Newry Credit Union, as well as an online option.

"Newry has a proud history of rallying around people, the Kevin Bell repatriation Trust is testimony to that.

"I'm sure that the launching of this fund now, the people of Newry will respond to that."
