Bombardier has sealed a deal worth $719m that could help secure jobs at its east Belfast site.
It follows an announcement by the Canadian Aerospace firm that it has sold 15 of its CRJ900 jets to American Airlines – with an option for an additional 15 down the line.
Parts of the aircraft are made in Belfast.
Fred Cromer, President of Bombardier’s Commercial Aircraft, said: “We are pleased with America’s continued confidence in Bombardier and the CRJ900 aircraft.
“The order is a testament to the tremendous value that the CRJ900 provides to airlines in the North/American regional market.
“With its outstanding economics and new cabin design, the CRJ900 continues to offer unique revenue growth opportunities while delivering the most modern regional jet cabin features in line with today’s trends and requirements.”
It comes just months after Bombardier won its trade dispute with Boeing in the US.
