Mother dolphin and her baby rescued from Strangford shore

Yesterday morning (31st August) at around 10.30am two dolphins were found stranded on the beach close to Castle Espie, Co Down.
A mother dolphin and her calf had difficulty during low tide on the shores of Strangford Lough.
Medics from British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) were first on the scene, swiftly followed by Portaferry and Bangor Coastguard Rescue Teams, alongside two full time Coastguard Officers.
With the help or wet towels and the tide starting to turn, the pair eventually got into deeper water and back to swimming.
A post shared on social media praising the rescuers explained: "They were observed swimming into the distance and we are pleased to say they should make a full recovery.”
Anna Ashdown, Reserve Warden for Wetlands Trust Castle Espie thanked all who took part in the rescue.
"Well done to our brilliant reserve warden for her swift action. A fantastic team effort from all involved, which resulted in a positive and safe outcome for the dolphins. 🐬"
