A midwife from Cookstown has landed the cover of Vogue magazine.

Rachel Millar is featuring in an upcoming special issue which celebrates key workers.

The 24 year old, who works at Homerton Hospital in East London, told Downtown/Cool FM News, “It was all very random and very quick.”

“All we were told was that Vogue were taking some sort of NHS feature for people working during the pandemic.”

“Then it was a couple of weeks later when they decided on the cover photo and that’s when they got in contact with me”.

The July issue also celebrates two other key workers based in London; train driver Narguis Horsford, and supermarket assistant Anisa Omar.

Rachel says when she found out she’d be featuring in the iconic magazine, her initial reaction was one of shock.

“I thought surely my head of Midwifery was making it up but it turned out to be true”

“I had to keep it a secret for about a month which I just about managed”

Rachel, who chose her career path after learning about birth during lambing season on her grandparents’ farm, says the magazine was interested in her story about her bicycle being stolen while she was working during the pandemic.

Within a few hours a friend helped raise over ÂŁ500 for a new one, and a local company donated her an electric bike.

She told us “the response was incredible, but really overwhelming, and just so kind”.
