Hat, gloves and scarves at the ready... there's a cold snap on the way! The Met Office has issued a yellow ‘be aware’ weather warning for Northern Ireland.

Snow showers are expected to develop from late Thursday evening lasting through most of the weekend. These, combined with strong winds could lead to locally very poor travel conditions.

Travelers are being warned of the potential for disruption to transport due to lying and drifting snow.

A statement on the Met Office website says: "Snow showers are expected to become increasingly frequent on Friday. 2-5 cm of snow is likely for some, with 10-20 cm possible over high ground. Icy surfaces are also likely to be an additional hazard, especially overnight. Strong northwest winds may cause drifting of the snow in places. Snow showers could lead to snow accumulations which will vary markedly across the warning area."

Expect icy patches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

The warning is in place from 00:05 Friday lasting through to 18:00 Saturday.
