Met Office issues weather warning for thunderstorms on Saturday ⚡⛈️
Here we go again!
Last updated 9th Aug 2019
Thunderstorms and heavy showers look set to batter much of Northern Ireland this weekend, the Met Office has said.
Forecasters have issued a yellow severe weather warning as torrential rain is likely to develop during Saturday afternoon across counties Antrim, Down, Armagh, Tyrone & Derry~Londonderry.
"Whilst many areas will miss the worst of these thundery showers, a few spots could see 15-25 mm within an hour and 30-40 mm within 3 hours. It is possible that some of these may become slow-moving and prolonged - most likely across parts of southern Scotland, leading to the potential for 60-80 mm of rain in 6-12 hours."
The Met Office's weather warning comes into effect from midnight lasting through until 06:00 Sunday.
"There is a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus"
"Delays to train services are possible"
"Some short term loss of power and other services is likely"
There is some good news on the horizon as Sunday is forecast to be the brighter and drier day of the weekend.
