Man charged following assault in Newtownabbey

A 36-year-old man has been charged to court

A man has been charged with a number of offences including grievous bodily harm, common assault and assault on police.

A PSNI officer has received treatment in hospital after being assaulted following a disturbance at a business in Newtownabbey.

Shortly after 10am on the 28th July (Sunday) police received a report of a man being abusive towards and throwing items at staff at a shop in the Abbott’s Cross area.

While attending the incident an officer was assaulted and taken to hospital for treatment to an injury to their hand.

The man, aged 36, was arrested on suspicion of common assault, criminal damage, theft and assault on police.

He has been charged with a number of offences including grievous bodily harm, common assault and assault on police.

He is expected to appear before Belfast Magistrate’s Court on Monday the 26th of August.
