Man charged in connection with disorder in South Belfast

A man is due in court later charged in connection with recent disorder in the Broadway area of South Belfast.

He's charged with offences including riot after being arrested in connection with trouble on Tuesday evening.

Police came under attack for two nights in a row, being pelted with petrol bombs, paint, and bottles by crowds of young people.

A PSNI statement said , “A 38-year-old man arrested during the disorder in the Broadway area of south Belfast on Tuesday night, 16th July, has been charged to court.”

“He was charged with riot, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and indecent behaviour.”

“The man is expected to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court on Thursday 18th July. As is usual procedure all charges will be reviewed by the PPS.”
