Man cable-tied and 'brutally' attacked by masked gang in Co Antrim

The 'savage' attack happened on Christmas Eve.

Detectives are appealing for information.

An aggravated Christmas Eve burglary in Dunloy has left a man requiring hospital treatment, after he was cable tied to a chair and beaten my a masked gang.

It is reported that three masked men broke into a home on Moyan Road, attacking the occupant and leaving him with cuts and bruises to the face.

Police say the ‘savage assault’ was reported at 10.50pm.

Detective Inspector McKenna said: "This was a savage assault during which the victim was cable tied and assaulted. He was punched around the face and head and left with cuts and bruises to his body and an eye injury.

“This was a brutal attack, which was terrifying for the victim, and happened on Christmas Eve, a time when people should be relaxing and looking forward to Christmas Day.

“Our enquiries into this attack, what exactly happened and a motive for it are continuing. In the meantime, we're keen to hear from anyone who was in the area between 10:30pm and 10:45pm to get in touch with us. We're also urging anyone who knows anything about this vicious crime to call 101 and quote reference number 1948 of 24/12/20."
