Man attacked by masked men armed with hammer and screwdriver in L'Derry

A woman was held at knifepoint nearby during the assault

A man in his 60s has been attacked by a number of masked men armed with a hammer and screwdriver in Londonderry, says the PSNI.

It happened just before half 11 last night (Friday) in the Fern Park area.

He was reportedly dragged out of a car and assaulted while a woman passenger was held at knifepoint nearby.

She was not physically harmed.

The man remains in hospital and is being treated for two broken collar bones, a broken arm and puncture wounds to his legs.

An investigation into this incident is underway and detectives would ask anyone with any information to contact them at Strand Road on 101, quoting reference number 2292 19/05/23.
