Man and woman arrested following car chase

Police have arrested a man and a woman in Downpatrick following a police pursuit which started in Comber this morning, Sunday November 13th.

Inspector Nigel Donnelly said: “Shortly before 1.10am, local police officers noticed a BMW car driving erratically in the Killinchy area.

“Police signalled for the vehicle to stop but it failed to do so and a pursuit was then authorised by specially trained officers.

“Officers deployed stinger devices in the Downpatrick area before the vehicle was eventually stopped. The car was searched and a number of items were seized, including a quantity of suspected Class C Controlled drugs.

"A 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a number of motoring and drug related offences, including driving whilst unfit, dangerous driving and possession of suspected Class C Drugs.

"A 34-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences, including possession of suspected Class C Drugs. They both remain in police custody at this time."

An investigation is underway. Anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone with dash cam footage is asked to call police on 101, and quote reference number 125 13/11/22.
