Olympic gold medallist Lady Mary Peters says she is worried the pandemic is causing a raft of mental health problems for older people.

She spoke to DT Cool FM to mark loneliness awareness week.

Now in her 80s, Lady Mary shared her experience of lockdown:

"I think it has been very stressful and people suffering from mental health issues because they've been isolated at home.

"I've been very lucky that I have this wilderness of a garden that I have lots of walking paths near me and I have pals that I can join up with and walk and I think that was important."

And she told us she is concerned about older people and urged them to gradually ease out of isolation:

"I think people have lost their confidence, especially if they haven't driven for a long time or going out for a walk or going shopping."
