"It's good to see someone's listening" Sarah Ewart on recommended change to NI abortion law
Support for working group report from woman who had to travel to England for termination
The woman at the centre of one of Northern Ireland’s highest-profile abortion cases has welcomed a report recommending a change in the law.
Sarah Ewart says such a change has been a long time coming.
“We have been going at this for five years so it is great to feel that the five years have not been wasted and that someone is actually listening,” she told Downtown & Cool FM…
Sarah has been campaigning for a change since 2013 when she had to travel to England for a termination.
Yesterday a report from a working group, comprising medical and legal experts, recommended that abortion should be allowed in cases of fatal foetal abnormality.
The review was a result of a Stormont report commissioned in 2016 by the Health and Justice ministers to help the Executive make policy deliberations.
Sarah described her trip to England as a “scary experience”.
“We literally didn’t know where to go who to turn do or what even to look for,” she said. “We left the hospital not even knowing literally where to turn."
