11 year old boy charged with rioting and throwing petrol bombs in South Belfast

Police have charged an 11 year old boy with rioting and throwing petrol bombs in South Belfast.

It's in connection with disorder in the Broadway Roundabout area of the city on the 15th of July.

During disorder that night, petrol and paint bombs were thrown at PSNI officers and vehicles by groups of up to 50 young people.

Police vehicles and cars belonging to members of the public were damaged.

A PSNI statement said, “Police investigating disorder in the Broadway area of south Belfast on Monday, 15th July have charged an 11-year-old boy to court.”

“The boy has been charged with riot, three counts of possessing petrol bombs in suspicious circumstances, and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.”

“He has been further charged with throwing petrol bombs and causing an explosion likely to endanger life or cause serious injury to property. The boy is due to appear before Belfast Youth Court on Friday, 6th September.”

“As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.”
