Covid-19 cluster confirmed at Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital

The Belfast Health and Social Care Trust confirmed a patient and staff members have tested positive for Covid-19.

One patient and five staff members at a cardiology ward in Belfast’s Royal Victoria Hospital have tested positive for Coronavirus.

The Belfast Health and Social Care Trust confirmed staff members tested positive for the virus over the past fortnight and one patient is currently self-isolating.

The Trust said testing in ongoing and that no employees are currently off work because of the cluster.

It comes after The Department of Health reported yesterday (Tuesday) that 320 people tested positive within the current reporting period, the highest daily total recorded in Northern Ireland.

There were no new Covid-19 related deaths.

The Chief Scientific Officer, Ian Young, said figures are likely to continue to increase as cases are now reaching 250 per day.

He said the number of cases are doubling approximately every nine to ten days.
