One of Northern Ireland's best-known tourist attractions will not be open for Easter

The Carrick-A-Rede rope bridge on the north coast has been closed since the pandemic struck more than two years ago

Hopes were high it would re-open this weekend but it is understood staff have yet to be recruited.

In a statement the National Trust said it was working hard behind the scenes to open as soon as it was safe to do so.

The Trust said: "The National Trust is preparing for the re-opening of Carrick-a-Rede following its closure for over two years.

"We’re excited to welcome everyone back to this special place and are working hard behind the scenes to open as soon as we are safely able to do so.

"We’re currently recruiting a full team to ensure every visitor has the best possible experience at the famous rope bridge and therefore cannot give a definitive date for when this beautiful site will be open to visitors at this time."

If you're heading to the north coast this weekend, you'll want to check out some of the local coffee shops and hidden gems.

Take a look at some of our favourites 👇

Bothy, White Park Bay

If this Hot Chocolate and cookie stack isn't tempting enough...you can't visit Bothy without trying one of their homemade pizzas. The food here is superb, all made fresh and sourced locally. Everyone that visits this hidden gem falls completely in love with both the staff and the charming décor.
Top Tip: Before you go, check out their Instagram page for the latest pizza menu and opening times.

Coffee Hut, Castlerock

Just look at that monster soda, yes please! A closely guarded secret amongst locals and visitors in the know, Coffee Nut is tucked away in pretty village of Castlerock. The signature white picket fence and outdoor seating is perfect for summer hangouts.

Surf Shack, Castlerock

This is one seriously cool spot overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, the coffee is first-class too. There's no better spot on the coast to watching surfers catch a wave, the most idyllic sunsets or to even try out some yoga/qigong.

Something that little bit different, the Sea Shed at Benone Beach is a popular glass fronted take-away coffee bar. After a long day in the water, nothing tastes sweeter than a steaming 'cup of joe' served up by the friendly staff at Sea Shed.
