It’s the film we’ve all been waiting for...Sir Kenneth Branagh’s Golden Globe winning semi-autobiographical movie Belfast, will finally hit local screens this weekend.

Set at the beginning of the Troubles, Belfast tells the story of a young boy called Buddy, played by rising star Jude Hill from Gilford, juggling family life and young love in a city on the brink of war.

11-year-old Jude was over the moon to be a part of Belfast's history.

He exclusively shared with Cool FM & Downtown Radio how he studied hard for the role and learned a lot about Northern Ireland's turbulent past.

"I had to self-educate myself," he explains. "I watched a few YouTube videos, documentaries, TV shows and my mum and dad talked to me about it all too."

Hotly tipped for as Oscar nomination or two in the next few weeks, the cast and crew have already picked up a handful of incredible awards and recognitions from the biggest names in the industry.

Earlier this month the film won Best Screenplay at the Golden Globes. The SAG Awards announced that Irish actress Caitriona Balfe has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role as ‘Ma’, plus the entire cast are nominated for Best Motion Picture.

Jamie Dornan, who plays ‘Pa’, describes this film as a ‘total one off!’ He said: "I've done a lot of work set here, I'll endeavour to do more and more work here, it means everything to me.

"Much of this film is for the people here, for the resilience, the brilliance, the humour and for everything that the great people of this city and part of this world has been through."
