The Stena Line Belfast Giants are pleased to announce the return of Chris Higgins for the 2016/17 season.

With the new season less than three weeks away - Higgins re-signs for his third season in Belfast.

Higgins returns to Belfast as the organisation put the finishing touches to the team that will challenge for their fifth ever league title.

The forward, nicknamed the ‘Belfast Datsyuk’, by the Giants fans for his skilled play, will once again take to The SSE Arena ice when the 2016/17 season begins with back-to-back home exhibition games against the Fischtown Pinguins of the DEL on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st August. Higgins posted 61 points in 55 games in the 2013/14 Giants championship winning season - his first in Belfast before moving to Nottingham for 2014/15.

The 30 year old American is a Boston University graduate - where he won the 2008/09 NCAA national championship, has also played in the ECHL for Gwinnett, Las Vegas, South Carolina, Utah and Wheeling with seasons also spent in Italy with Ritten and Tingsryds of Sweden.

Derrick Walser, Head Coach, said:

Chris Higgins and his line did a lot of damage against other teams last season. Chris is a player who will produce offence and make players around him better - so it was an easy decision for me to bring him back this season.
