There has been widespread anger after a hoax bomb scare forced the pupils at Dickson Primary School to be evacuated on Friday morning.

Chief Inspector Barney O’Connor said: “Following a report of a device left at a school in the Pollock Drive area of Lurgan this afternoon, Friday 10th June, police conducted searches and checks both in the building and the surrounding area.

"The school children were moved safely to nearby premises, where parents picked them up. Nothing untoward was found and police believe this to be a hoax.”

"I would like to thank the staff and pupils for being patient and the local community for their help. I would ask, if anyone has information they contact police on 101 quoting the reference number, 705 10/06/22 "

MLA for the area, Jonathan Buckley said: "I'm aware of an incident this morning in which Dickson Primary School, Lurgan had to be evacuated after an alleged bomb scare was reported.

"A truly disturbing, despicable hoax.

"Well done to all staff and PSNI for responding quickly to evacuate the school children to safety, to Glenavon FC for accommodating them and to Mourneview and Grey Estate Community Assoc for their assistance.

"I would ask any one that may have information that could be useful to ongoing investigations to come forward to the PSNI without hesitation."
