11 arrests made in DCI Caldwell attempted murder probe
The gun attack happened in February
Eleven people have this morning been arrested by detectives investigating the attempted murder of Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell.
The senior PSNI detective was left with life changing injuries after a dissident republican gun attack in Omagh in February.
The shooting happened in front of his young son, at a sports complex.
A PSNI statement this morning said, “Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Major Investigation Team have this morning, Friday 26 May, conducted a significant search and arrest operation in relation to the attempted murder of Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell.”
“Eleven people - nine men and two women - aged between 21 and 72 years old were arrested under the Terrorism Act in Omagh and Coalisland.”
“They have been taken to the Serious Crime Suite in Musgrave where they are currently being questioned by detectives”
DCI Caldwell made his first public appearance since the attack this week, at a garden party hosted by the King and Queen at Northern Ireland's royal residence in Hillsborough.
Speaking to Downtown/Cool FM this week, Chief Constable Simon Byrne said he continues to receive regular briefings on the investigation.
