DUP MP Sammy Wilson said the party would not allow the Executive to do what he said would be another U-turn on businesses re-opening.

Close contact services, cafes and restaurants are due to re-open on Friday - a week later than expected..

But that has yet to be formally signed off by Ministers, who will meet again on Thursday.

Mr Wilson said they will be sticking to their word.

"We will not be acceding to any request by the Executive to reverse last week's decision," he told Downtown Radio & Cool FM.

"That would be disastrous having given people the signal that they can open this Friday."

It comes after comments by one of the UK's top scientists that circuit-breakers or any other form of lockdown do more harm than good.

In an interview with us, Professor Sunetra Gupta - a leading epidemiologist from Oxford University - is one of three key academics behind a new 'Focused Protection' strategy which means targeting the most vulnerable and elderly while allowing the rest of the population to get on with their lives.
